Newscasts

Producing news is what I love to do. And my philosophy is simple: let the content be my guide. I do not let a format restrict me from telling the days stories. My viewers come to me to inform them of what happened overnight and what they need to know to get the day started. That means having the latest content and up-to-the-minute weather and traffic. Everyday is different, and I try to find different ways to showcase what we have. I love looking for the newest stories, along with the best video and sound, to make sure my viewers keep coming back. Below you'll find a selection of different news blocks. Please click here if you're looking for segments I've produced. Please contact me with any questions or critiques you may have.

A, B, C & D Blocks

This show was packed with content. It was definitely one of those days I wish I had more time in my newscast to get it all in and make sure our viewers saw everything. We had breaking international news with a Northern California tie, overnight developments in a story that was breaking news at 11 p.m. and what changes the Reno Air Races made to its event one year after the crash. All great leads. When you watch the A-block, you'll see how much it differs from the D-block (6:30 restart). I loved producing this newscast. These are all the blocks I produced because NBC cut in with a special report on the situation in Libya and Egypt.

This block felt jam packed from top to bottom. It has a good mix of need-to-know local and national news, plus the all-important weather and traffic.

August 29, 2012 D-Block

At 6:30 I want to make sure my viewers who are just joining us know what they need to know, but also present what my viewers at 6:00 saw in a different way. Instead of leading with a reporter, I used live pictures and video, along with my weather anchor to tell the story. The stock market also opens at 6:30 on the west coast, so we do a daily business report to get everyone up to speed.

The major story in our area was three hours away. Since it was too far for my crew to go, we improvised. I sent them to a city where many were seeing the smoke from the fire. We also gave them new video the nightside crew shot on their way back.

In the rest of this A-Block you can see how am to constantly use the newest stories to make sure my viewers are informed for the day.

The Olympics are huge for NBC stations. More people who typically don't watch your channel, have a chance to see what you do best. Plus, it's what everyone is talking about. In this show we had a great breaking story, we really pushed to make sure they knew what happened overnight, plus what they needed going into their day with the Olympics.
